Plugging the leaks: antibiotic resistance at human–animal interfaces in low‐resource settings

نویسندگان

چکیده

Antibiotic resistance is one of the greatest public health challenges our time. International efforts to curb have largely focused on drug development and limiting unnecessary antibiotic use. However, in areas where water, sanitation, hygiene infrastructure lacking, we propose that bacterial flow between humans animals can exacerbate emergence spread resistant pathogens. Here, describe consequences poor environmental controls by comparing mobile elements among Escherichia coli recovered from meat Cambodia, a middle‐income country with substantial human–animal connectivity unregulated We identified identical conserved transposon region were widely dispersed both animals, phenomenon rarely observed high‐income settings. Our findings indicate plugging leaks at interfaces should be critical part addressing low‐ especially countries.

Towards Plugging Privacy Leaks in Domain Name System

Privacy leaks are an unfortunate and an integral part of the current Internet domain name resolution. Each DNS query generated by a user reveals – to one or more DNS servers – the origin and target of that query. Over time, a user’s browsing behavior might be exposed to entities with little or no trust. Current DNS privacy leaks stem from fundamental features of DNS and are not easily fixable b...

Plugging Side-Channel Leaks with Timing Information Flow Control

The cloud model’s dependence on massive parallelism and resource sharing exacerbates the security challenge of timing side-channels. Timing Information Flow Control (TIFC) is a novel adaptation of IFC techniques that may offer a way to reason about, and ultimately control, the flow of sensitive information through systems via timing channels. With TIFC, objects such as files, messages, and proc...

Designing interfaces in public settings

The rapidly increasing reach of computation into our everyday public settings presents new and significant challenges for the design of interfaces. One key feature of these settings is the increased presence of third parties to interaction, watching or passing-by as conduct with an interface takes place. This thesis assumes a performative perspective on interaction in public, presenting a frame...

Selection of antibiotic resistance at very low antibiotic concentrations

Human use of antibiotics has driven the selective enrichment of pathogenic bacteria resistant to clinically used drugs. Traditionally, the selection of resistance has been considered to occur mainly at high, therapeutic levels of antibiotics, but we are now beginning to understand better the importance of selection of resistance at low levels of antibiotics. The concentration of an antibiotic v...

Plugging paravalvular leaks after transcatheter aortic valve replacement: why and how?

SEE PAGE 681 P aravalvular leaks or paravalvular regurgitation (PVR) occur after most transcatheter aortic valve replacements (TAVRs) utilizing the firstand second-generation devices. They are generally mild and are seemingly of no clinical significance, although controversy exists on this point (1,2). When PVR is moderate or greater, it is clinically significant, blunting clinical improvement ...
